At xYnta, we strive to provide our customers with the best possible security. That is why all our hosting servers are equipped with cPGuard as standard. For customers with a managed VPS package, cPGuard is available as a paid add-on. Recently, cPGuard added a new feature to their security suite: the Database Scanner for WordPress.
Why is a database scanner important?
Traditionally, security solutions focus on scanning files to detect malware and other threats. However, attackers are increasingly targeting website databases, particularly on WordPress sites. By injecting malicious code into the database, they can redirect visitors to unsafe websites or execute unwanted scripts. These attacks are harder to detect and can cause serious damage to your website's reputation.
What does the new Database Scanner do?
The cPGuard Database Scanner is specifically designed to uncover hidden threats within your database. It is optimised for WordPress, focusing on detecting malicious code in WordPress databases. The emphasis is on minimal system load and avoiding false positives. Through automatic updates, the scanner is regularly equipped with new detection patterns, ensuring even the latest threats are recognised.
How does it work?
The Database Scanner offers three ways to use it. With a manual scan, cPGuard automatically checks whether a WordPress installation is present and immediately scans the associated database. You can also configure an automatic daily scan, keeping your databases continuously monitored for suspicious activity. For advanced users, it is also possible to run scans via the command line using the cpgcli utility.
What does this mean for you?
With the addition of the Database Scanner, cPGuard offers an even more complete security solution for your website. It helps protect against advanced attacks targeting your database, preserving the integrity and reliability of your website.
The new Database Scanner is automatically active for all our customers with a hosting package — since cPGuard is installed as standard on all our hosting servers, there is nothing you need to do. Do you have a managed VPS package with cPGuard already added? Then the new feature is automatically active for you as well.
Do you have a managed VPS package but are not yet using cPGuard? You can add cPGuard as an extra layer of security to your server. Feel free to contact us for more information or to have cPGuard activated. Our team is always ready to help you secure your website and server to the fullest.
