Moving to Managed VPS — free and handled with care

Access to your current server environment

To transfer your websites, databases and email, we need access to your current environment. Do not have everything to hand right away? No problem — we are happy to help you request the details from your current provider. The main things we need are:

• The type of control panel installed on your server — such as DirectAdmin, cPanel, Plesk or another system.
• Root or administrator access to your current server, via SSH or the control panel.
• The IP address or hostname of your current server.
• DNS records you want to keep — such as MX, SPF and DKIM records for email. Just note them down and we will take care of transferring them.

Would you like to transfer your domain names too?

No problem — we support over 500 different extensions. It helps if you arrange the following with your current provider in advance:

• Check whether your domain name is locked. Many providers apply a "registrar lock" or "transfer lock" by default — this can easily be disabled.
• Request the transfer code (EPP code or auth code). We need this to take over the domain name.
• Prefer to leave the domain where it is and just point it to your new server? We will sort that out with you — we will explain exactly which DNS settings are needed.

What can you check in advance?

To help the migration go as smoothly as possible, it is helpful if you check the following:

• Are your websites working correctly at your current provider? We migrate your environment as it is — existing issues will carry over.
• Are your CMS installations up to date? Severely outdated versions of WordPress, plugins or themes can cause issues during or after the migration.

What happens after your request?

After you fill in the migration form, we will always contact you personally. Here is what you can expect:

• We review your situation and discuss together what the best approach is.
• We draw up a migration plan and agree on a date that works for you.
• We migrate your websites, databases and email to your new Managed VPS.
• After the migration we verify that everything is working correctly. Only then do we transfer your domain names — so your websites remain accessible until the very last moment.
• You will receive a confirmation from us once everything is done.

When is the migration free?

The migration service is included free of charge with every new Managed VPS package. In most cases we carry out the migration entirely for you — especially if your current server runs on DirectAdmin or cPanel and you have root or administrator access.

Already a customer at xYnta?

Switching from an existing hosting, WordPress or email package at xYnta to a Managed VPS? The migration is always free and requires minimal information from you. We already know your environment and will make the transition as smooth as possible.

What if your situation is more complex?

Not every server environment is the same. Do you have multiple servers, separate accounts, a different control panel or limited access? We will always look together at what is possible. If the migration cannot be carried out entirely free of charge, we will let you know before anything gets started — and you will receive a non-binding quote.

Practical information

• Migrating in multiple steps is possible, within a period of up to 30 days.
• Domain names are only transferred after the migration has been completed successfully — so your websites remain accessible throughout the entire process.

What do we not migrate?

• Software, server configurations or custom applications that are not compatible with your new Managed VPS.
• Data from environments we cannot gain access to.
• Websites where we cannot establish in advance that they will continue to work correctly after the migration — in that case we will always contact you.
